Each year, the Flemish Government Architect goes in search of strong spatial concepts and integrated research questions that make a positive social difference. The BWMSTR Label (Bouwmeesterlabel) provides him with a key instrument for picking up innovative and policy-relevant ideas and, in so doing, for supporting (design-based) research. The winners are selected on the basis of a public appeal. They all receive a budget that allows them to carry on developing their project and create a dossier that can be used to approach different policymakers.
In 2017 - 2018 the Flanders Architecture Institute will be exhibiting the results of a selection of the BWMSTR Labels 2016 in the corridors of deSingel. What can you expect? Refreshing ideas about open-air swimming spots, alternative housing solutions in densely built-up urban centres, a new vision for shelter typologies and research into recreation and exercise in the city.
