Baltic Bioregional

Studio Susanne Brorson

BDA Galerie Hamburg

Hours
Mon–Thu 10 am–1 pm 2–6 pm

“Baltic Bioregional” encompasses work from teaching, research, and practice at the STUDIO SUSANNE BRORSON office in Bergen auf Rügen that focuses on climatic and regenerative architecture in the Baltic Sea region. Typology, materials, and construction are the focus of an experimental exploration of bioregional architecture through built projects, as well as full-scale material and spatial experiments that explore the relationship between architecture, climate, and this unique landscape and its resources across various scales.

On display are drawings and models of the “Experimental House Rügen” and the “Eco Village Rügen,” as well as excerpts from the research project “Baltic Vernacular—a typological research as a tool for climatic design.” Examples from teaching include student projects from the “Baltic Vernacular – Experimental Laboratory” from 2017–2026—such as those exploring seasonal facade cladding in the Baltic Sea region—as well as work from the “Baltic Bioregional” design studio at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Roma-Rügen-Riga – the exhibition also invites visitors on an imaginary journey with the “seasonal salon,” a floating pavilion that set out from the German Academy Villa Massimo into the Baltic Sea region in 2024. The large-format photographic works by Latvian architect Linda Leitane on the local climate and weather over the Baltic Sea provide insight into this spatial investigation.

Opening: October 7, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
