Since their student days, Edelaar Mosayebi Inderbitzin Architekten have been dealing with gardens – both theore-tically and in the context of their architectural projects, in which architecture and garden ideally intertwine to become an inseparable whole.

Building on these foundations, they will now use their exhibition for an experimental and atmospheric project. They will transform the gallery into a living garden with trees, shrubs, flowers, a pond, mossy stones, sounds of chirping birds and wind, and the smell of moss, moist soil, leaves and decaying wood. This illusory space offers visitors an intense and engaging experience that appeals to all the senses. Instead of the house being in the garden as customary, this time the garden will be in the house. This inversion highlights the garden as a topos, presenting it as a work unto itself. The exhibition offers several experiential levels. The soil, plants, and water, together with a panorama photo on the walls and a light installation, will comprise the visual level. This is supple-mented by various media that engage the senses of hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling. The implementation of the exhibition project further stimulates the viewers with questions such as: How can a natural space be created to appear deceivingly genuine? Where is the border between illusion and reality?

Ron Edelaar, Elli Mosayebi, and Christian Inderbitzin founded their studio in Zurich in 2005. They have since realized a number of projects, including the Avellana housing estate in Zurich-Schwamendingen, the Steinwies-/Irisstrasse residential buildings in Zurich-Hottingen, and the Speich Areal residential and commercial complex in Zurich-Wipkingen. The architectural firm is currently working on several residential homes in the Zurich area. Christian Inderbitzin was a visiting professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 2015/2016. Since 2012, Elli Mosayebi has been a professor for design and housing at the Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany.
