The exhibition accompanying the DAM Preis 2018 showcases exceptional examples of current construction activity in Germany and noteworthy projects carried out by German architectural studios in other countries, too. For the show, a jury has selected 23 building projects completed in Germany and two constructed abroad from a longlist of 100 structures. New builds, refurbishments, and conversions represent examples of the entire spectrum of present-day construction assignments: they include residential buildings, concert halls and other communal structures, a supermarket and a co-working space just as much as a sports hall and a university building. The jury has nominated four of these structures as finalists for the DAM Preis 2018 and the judges have visited them to confirm their assessment. The winning ensemble to be awarded the DAM Preis 2018 will be announced at the exhibition opening on January 26, 2018.

To coincide with the exhibition, the German Architecture Annual 2018 will be published by DOM publishers, Berlin. In articles written especially for the Annual, renowned authors discuss in detail the prize-winning structure, the finalists, the buildings shortlisted, and the buildings outside Germany. Two essays on current issues complement the articles: The article “Das Hamburger Modell der Grundstücksvergabe” (The Hamburg model for allocating land) by Verena Wein-Wilke and Bendix Bürgener takes a look at municipal planning practices. In the second essay, which has the slightly provocative title “Braucht Castrop-Rauxel eine Philharmonie?” (Does Castrop-Rauxel need a philharmonic hall), Jörg Friedrich addresses the current concert hall boom in Germany.
Available in bookshops or at DAM. Members of the Society of the Friends of DAM can pick up a copy of the Annual free of charge at the museum ticket desk.
