Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The exhibition deals with the pressing issues of sustainability in building from the perspective of two very different architectural positions.
The work of Studio Anna Heringer can be characterised by its constant use of natural and health-promoting building materials using traditional techniques. The work is mostly located in Asia and Africa, incorporating the local culture and labour force. Therefore, clay as a material and local handicrafts play a central role in the exhibition and it is shown how knowledge from the global south is also an enrichment for us in Bavaria in terms of fair, sustainable and culturally vibrant development.
More than 10 years ago, Muck Petzet introduced a value system of avoidance, reuse and recycle into the architectural discussion with Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This discussion is continued in the exhibition using two current demolition projects in Munich: the Health House and the Hirmer multi-storey car park. How could these demolitions be avoided and the physical, spatial and social potentials of the existing buildings be used for the development of new typologies and spatial offers in Munich?
