Kamran Diba, a renowned architect of his time designed Niavaran Cultural Center. The construction of the complex started in 1976 and finished in 1977.

The glorious mirror mosaic artworks by the outstanding artist Monir Farmanfarmaian Shahroudi at the entrance of the main hall, combining the unique architecture of Niavaran Cultural Center, inspired by the Persian traditional art, is a spectacular attraction of this complex.

Influenced by the pattern of Persian Gardens, the garden of Niavaran Cultural Center provides great outdoor spaces for artists to hold their performances.

As the only cultural center in Tehran which is supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Niavaran Cultural Center started to provide services to artists from all over the world in 1978 in order to implement cultural and artistic programs in the international arena, develop communication between Iranian and foreign artists in all fields of arts and hold international meetings in different fields of culture, art, and also books and has been active ever since.

In 1978, Niavaran Cultural Center established an Art Education Center, including classes of design and graphics, sculpture, painting, acting, playwriting, and miniatures which managed to educate prominent masters such as Mahmood Dowlatabadi, GhotbedinSadeghi, and Mahmood Farshchian, three distinguished and outstanding Iranian artists.

In the recent years, many educational courses were held by local and international renowned masters and well-known artists in Niavaran Cultural Center such as holding workshops in various fields of art with the presence of European, Asian and American famous artists and masters.  Also workshops on international support for literary and artistic works in the presence of the Deputy Secretary General of the "World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)” can be mentioned.

In the field of Music,  mutual cultural weeks of Iran and other Asian countries such as “Iran and Japan Cultural Week” in 2013, “Iran and Kazakhstan” in autumn of 2017, “Iran and China” in 2014, “Fajr International Music Festival” with the presence of distinguished musicians from five continents, several terms of a music festival titled as “Show of Hands” with presence of distinguished European musicians, “Jazz Nights Festival” with African and American musicians and various concerts of international musicians from Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Brazil, Argentina and African and Asian countries can be mentioned in the recent years.

In the field of Visual Arts, many exhibitions have been held in the main gallery of  N.C.C  such as: “World Press Photo” international exhibition, “Otto Wagner” architectural exhibition from Austria, Architectural Exhibition from Germany with presence of “GMP”company, “Lost Paradise”: Iran from above, the exhibition of the famous Swiss photographer and artist “Georg Georg Gerster”  one of the world's leading aerial photographers about Iran from above, and various exhibitions in collaboration with embassies of Germany, Brazil, Spain, China, South Korea, Japan and etc., can be noticed in the recent years.

Benefiting from a treasury consisting of excellent and precious paintings by Iranian and foreign well-known artists, this gallery is considered as another unique attraction of Niavaran Cultural Center.

Library of Niavaran Cultural Center is located in an area of 250 square meters. Owning rich resources in the field of art and oriental studies, N. C. C. started to serve public at the same time of the opening of the complex in 1978.

As the time passed by, the need to change the use of this library from public to art-specialized led to distinctive features of Niavaran Library compared to other libraries, among which we can mention the existence of prominent domestic and foreign books in the field of architecture.

In the new era of Niavaran Cultural Center activities, the management of the complex is willing to use all its power to have a significant role in cultural diplomacy with foreign countries.
