The substance of things

Over time, we realised that our designs are shot through with this sense of empathy for the existing reality. Our team gradually became more multidisciplinary and complex. We began to engage more broadly with the places where our projects were located.

aking photographs, recording, drawing, measuring and asking questions became increasingly incisive tasks: while reflecting our sense of curiosity, they arose from the need to conduct research and define project strategies. In JAA’s recent projects, the team has examined each new place from scratch as a matter of course. Our field work takes the form of increasingly comprehensive in-depth surveys that seek to investigate and understand the substance of things.
