In 1964 the Royal College of Science and Technology, Glasgow, received its Royal Charter and transformed into the University of Strathclyde.  Marking this transition its School of Architecture was to receive a new purpose built building – the first in over three decades in the UK.

Professor Frank Fielden, the Professor of Architecture, was awarded the commission acting as client and architect simultaneously.  Opened by the Rt. Hon. Viscount Esher CBE in 1967, this ‘pioneering’ building has served tens of thousands of students and marks a definitive moment in Scotland’s Architectural Heritage.

Despite its popularity, the incredible story of its conception and construction remains largely untold.  50 DABS is focussed around an exhibition profiling the individuals who worked on the project, historical and contemporary imagery of the building as well as large scale physical models.  This exhibition, part of Scotland's Festival of Architecture 2017, will add colour and meaning to this story in a way that has not been seen before.
