SOM+Art
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, one of the world’s leading architecture, engineering, and urban planning firms, is celebrating its 90th anniversary with the exhibition “SOM+Art” at the Architekturgalerie München.
For more than five decades, SOM has collaborated with numerous artists, including Alexander Calder, Juan Miró, Harry Bertoia, Isamu Noguchi, Henry Moore, Sol LeWitt, James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, Richard Serra, and Maurizio Cattelan. These collaborations with artists open up new perspectives and create spatial experiences in which artistic ideas are translated into built form. Artists contribute unexpected impulses that challenge conventional thinking about structure, function, and form. Just as SOM continually redefines the boundaries of what is architecturally possible, these collaborations involve not only the implementation of artistic concepts but also their further development during the process of realization. Through selected projects, including works by Pablo Picasso, Jaume Plensa, and Janet Echelman, the exhibition highlights the interplay between art, architecture, and engineering.
Opening: September 30, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
