Since the 1960s and 1970s, through the focus on performance, live action and video art, artists began to explore the human body, seeking to question and redefine it as a territory of reflection for one’s actions. Deconstructing the idea of space through the experience of one’s own body, they mapped out new relationship with objects and the place in which they are located. Under the title Space is the Place, the upcoming exhibition cycle at BNKR, conceived by curator Lukas Feireiss is dedicated to the artistic exploration of space. The first chapter in the cycle begins with the group exhibitionThresholds. Limits of Space, which includes the workof different generations of artists; weaving together a video piece by performance artist Andrea Fraser, a newly conceived site-specific work by Jeewi Lee, a mixed installation by artist duo Wermke / Leinkauf and a public intervention by Raul Walch.
