Johannes Modersohn and Antje Freiesleben opened their architecture office in Berlin in the mid-1990s. The critical reconstruction was the theme of the time - especially in this city. With this in mind, they designed the first projects and have sharpened their attitude ever since.

Whether houses in the city or in the country, MODERSOHN & FREIESLEBEN develop the character of their projects from the program, the respective location and from the diverse materials and construction methods. The conscious handling of the existing surroundings and the independent design attitude create an architecture that gives the everyday object a house that is suitable for everyday use and beauty.

The WIRKLICHKEIT / REALITY exhibition uses models, drawings and photographs to show the office's twelve houses built over the past 20 years. They are in Berlin, Brandenburg, Sweden and Canada.

The exhibition offers two approaches to the work of the office: At first glance, the models catch the eye. They were carefully handcrafted in the office during the lockdown. The consistently maintained engineering scale of 1:33 and the attention to detail allow you to think your way around the small houses. Artistically presented facade views of the large buildings focus on the structure and detailing of the building structure. The current monograph provides more detailed information. Two photo loops show the houses under construction, shortly after their completion and while they are in use at their respective locations.

The basic architectural themes are in the center of the exhibition space with the small houses. The large projects along the walls focus on urban space.
