The seventh edition of Table Setting is dedicated to the work of Studio Ruben Castro. In the installation, Castro combines the recurring tables with elements, images and references from his multifaceted practice. The result is a seemingly autonomous pavilion on the square in front of DE SINGEL. The pavilion refers to Castro's young oeuvre, implicitly and explicitly. In addition, it makes usually unnoticed aspects of public space tangible.

Ruben Castro
After studying architecture in Ghent, Castro spent a lot of time in Switzerland. There, he worked with the architectural firms Christian Kerez, Office Haratori. Until recently, he managed Peter Zumtor's maquette studio. During the same period, he was artist in residence at the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
Castro works at the interfaces between architecture, fine art and photography. There is no sharp distinction between models and sculptures, design sketches and graphic art. All aspects of 'his work bear witness to meticulousness, sensitivity and tranquillity. To this end, he seeks slowness in the working process. For instance, in analogue photography with a large-format camera, but also in his drawings and maquettes.

Table setting
Table setting is a series of exhibitions on young architects from Flanders and Brussels, produced by DE SINGEL and the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi). Each edition, a young design practice presents itself on the square in front of DE SINGEL, using a colourful set of tables that carry the exhibition and serve as street furniture, each time in a new arrangement.
