Malý Chmel
It is an honor to present an exhibition by the Malý Chmel studio. Through a spatial intervention, the gallery is transformed into a new, temporary object – a "house with six rooms," creating a new framework for the perception of the exhibited models. These large-scale models, created specifically for the exhibition, serve as a forum for the exchange of spatial ideas and simultaneously reflect the essence of architecture. The exhibition is more than just a presentation of various projects – it becomes an architectural experience, an exploration of space within space.
Malý Chmel was founded in 2016 by three partners: Miroslav Malý, Miroslav Chmel, and Zdeněk Chmel. All three have valuable experience working in studios abroad, primarily in Switzerland, but also in Portugal. Their focus is on developing unique architectural solutions through thorough spatial analysis using a broad range of methods. In addition to the founding partners, the current team includes Gabriela Sládečková, Martin Ciglbauer, Lucie Hájková, and Ján Paločko.
The exhibition reflects, among other things, a fundamental aspect of the studio's work: the exploration of space. Not only figuratively, but also literally. The phrase "a house within" is more than a metaphor; it is the exhibition's strategy, reflected in the gallery space, into which it inserts a new and temporary architectural entity.
The exhibition responds directly to the gallery's characteristics—its scale, proportions, light, and acoustics—and presents a new framework in which the presentation of architecture becomes an architectural experience. The exhibition's authors have inserted another space—a six-room house—into the gallery, disrupting its inherent logic and changing the way visitors move or perceive its walls, ceilings, and interior views.
