The Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture is one of the world's largest research centers for the study and promotion of architectural heritage. The museum continues the traditions of the Research Museum of Architecture of the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR (founded in 1934) and the Museum of Russian Architecture (founded in 1945), united in 1963. It bears the name of its founder and first director, Russian and Soviet architect Alexei Shchusev.

Today, the Museum of Architecture conducts scientific research, stores and replenishes collections, organizes temporary exhibitions, where it presents its richest funds. The exposition spaces of the museum include three buildings: the enfilade of the main house of the Talyzin-Ustinov estate of the 18th-19th centuries, the renovated outbuilding "Ruina" and the medieval space of the Aptekarsky Prikaz - refectory chambers of the 17th century
