Architecture and the City Festival

Presented by AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design, the annual Architecture and the City festival is one of the nation's largest architectural festivals of its kind. Taking place in San Francisco every September, the month-long celebration features behind the scenes and walking tours, films, exhibitions, lectures and more that address varying aspects of the design and planning process.

Over 40 programs throughout the month provide an excellent opportunity for participants to engage with the local architecture community and experience design in a myriad of ways throughout the city.

This year, the Architecture and the City festival theme will be “Resilient City: Strength by Design.” We will investigate how architecture and design arts can pro-actively respond to urban resiliency challenges. We will incorporate perspectives from government, non-profit allies, professionals and neighbors – particularly those who have been historically unrepresented and are vulnerable – as we investigate San Francisco’s environmental, social and economic sustainability. Programs will explore on-going efforts and create opportunities for development of new, actionable solutions with the goal of facilitating a dialogue that empowers our community to address chronic stresses and acute shocks in innovative, equitable and inspiring ways.
