In A new perspective on waste young architects Carmen van Maercke, Caterina Rosso and Julie Marin take the twentieth-century belt around Antwerp as a case study for their view on waste.

Waste is everywhere. Yet despite being surrounded with rubbish, and producing it in ever-greater quantities, we barely stop to consider its disposal. Van Maercke and Rosso examine the ways in which sustainable urban refuse streams can be generated as an alternative to the existing large-scale industrial waste-processing methods. The twentieth-century belt around Antwerp functions as case study.

About the exhibition series BWMSTR Label
With the BWMSTR Label, the Flemish Government Architect seeks to identify innovative and policy-relevant ideas and thus support (design) research at an early stage. The Flanders Architecture Institute will exhibit the results of the BWMSTR Labels in the corridors of deSingel.
