Savage Architecture

The recent collaboration between Gian Piero Frassinelli (member of the Florentine collective Superstudio) and 2A+P/A (architectural practice based in Rome) relaunches the debate on the relationship between architecture and anthropology. 

Moving away from a historical or scientific perspective to embrace the point of view of the project, Savage Architecture is a journey in four episodes through the imaginative potential of the anthropological gaze, proposing an alternative to the dominant belief in the economic and technological reasons underpinning architecture. 

Savage suggests an architecture that rejects the domestic man, refusing to impose the power of reason upon his animal, symbolic, vital and political dimensions. The project imagines architecture as a field of tensions between control and freedom, narrative and technology, individual expression and collective rituals, imagining mechanisms and narratives that give form to the intrinsic dichotomies of mankind.
