Linz ... in progress
Work and the city have long been closely intertwined. Today, both—work and the city—face major challenges in their own right. To foster the conditions for urbanity through diversity, inclusion, and dynamic yet stable structures, the interplay between work and the city must be continually reimagined. City dwellers play a decisive role in this process, as they are the ones who, through the exchange of local knowledge and creativity and in their everyday practices, continually devise new forms of collaboration.
The city can be understood as the very place where this is made possible for people. Urban planning that sees itself as welcoming, inclusive, and interdisciplinary offers society a diverse range of tools to productively support social, ecological, and economic urban transformation. This requires “democratic and public spaces,” an attitude of “curare et reparare,” and an appreciation for biodiversity and diverse ecologies. These form the breeding ground for the sustainability of our cities.
