Always modern!
To mark its 200th birthday, the Association of Architects and Engineers in Berlin-Brandenburg (AIV) is organizing the exhibition and accompanying events "Always modern! Berlin and its streets. 200 years of architecture, urban development and civil engineering for Berlin" together with partners from September 5th to November 30th. The initiative will kick off on September 5th with a symposium on the topic of "Liveable urban spaces of tomorrow!" in the Kronprinzenpalais Unter den Linden. The patron of "Always modern!" is the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner.
The exhibition is designed as an open-air exhibition on the median strip of the Unter den Linden boulevard: Using the example of important street spaces, including Kurfürstendamm, Bundesallee, Schloßstraße, Swinemünder Straße and Leninallee, the key achievements and formative plans, but also the breaks in Berlin's urban development, will be presented. In addition, ten architectural firms* have examined the potential for change in ten main streets in Berlin and the neighboring state capital Potsdam and made suggestions for redesign, which can be seen in the exhibition section "Great Streets for Tomorrow".
A series of events accompanies and explains the exhibition. The current and future topics of urban development and architecture, mobility and infrastructure are discussed in the context of the transport and climate transition. Each topic requires a specific format - with debate contributions from politicians and experts from administration and business as well as from engineers, architects, urban planners and landscape architects.
At the end of "Always modern!", it is planned to adopt a summary with recommendations for action for all actors and stakeholders involved, which summarizes the results of the debates and presents a new perspective for an integrative planning and building culture on how the necessary transformation of the streets can succeed in favor of livable and attractive public spaces for everyone.
