designed from shells
A small piece of wood gives a great deal of fire. Despite this saying and plans for thermal recycling, an interdisciplinary team from the universities of Konstanz, Stuttgart, and Karlsruhe investigated how the formwork elements from the construction of Stuttgart's new main train station could be innovatively reused.
Over the course of two years, they developed forward-looking concepts that can make an ecological contribution to the construction sector. The results are presented in the exhibition. Beyond aesthetic and functional aspects, the exhibition examines the practical feasibility of reuse and the specific challenges of large-scale upcycling by addressing structural engineering, legal, and life cycle assessment issues.
Plans, photographs, and models illustrate the potential use of formwork elements in various real-world laboratories in Baden-Württemberg to conserve raw materials and reduce CO2 emissions. At an interactive exhibition station, visitors can experience the real-world laboratories and dimensions of the reused building components spatially at a 1:1 scale and try their hand at building their own virtual structures.
Opening: Thursday, October 23, 6 p.m.
