New building in Tyrol 2022

Since 1996, the province of Tyrol, together with the Chamber of Civil Engineers | Arch+Ing Tyrol and Vorarlberg - Section Architekt*innen, the ZV - Zentralvereinigung der Architekt*innen Österreichs, Landesverband Tirol and aut. architektur und tirol, has awarded prizes every two years to exemplary buildings in Tyrol.

From the 76 projects submitted for the "Award of the Province of Tyrol for New Building 2022", the jury - Sonja Gasparin (Gasparin & Meier Architekten, Finkenstein am Faaker See, A), Florian Nagler (architect and professor at TU Munich, D), Armando Ruinelli (architect, Soglio, CH) - visited a shortlist of buildings over two intensive days in July and decided on 16 nominations.

"If we sum up the impressions of two days of travel across the Tyrol of the North and East, we are left with the impression that efforts to create good architecture manifest themselves mainly in cultural institutions such as museums and libraries, in sports facilities, schools and the like, while the quality of the majority of everything built, housing, lags significantly.
Many projects operate in existing buildings; they are conversion, renovation, or expansion measures that use interventions of varying intensity to turn - sometimes even banal - existing buildings into beautiful architecture. This is very gratifying, because transforming and building in the existing stock are becoming increasingly important. We need to see our existing building stock not only as a spatial resource, but also as a material resource, if we are to achieve our necessarily ambitious climate goals." The decision as to which of these nominated projects will receive an award or recognition will be announced at a festive event in aut by a representative* of the Province of Tyrol, who will present the award winners with the award in the form of a certificate.

From the evening of the award ceremony, all projects submitted for the "Award of the Province of Tyrol for New Construction 2022" will be on display in aut. Each project will be presented on up to five A4 panels, the award-winning projects on wall panels with large-format pictures and the jury's statement. Thus, the exhibition offers the interested public a very good opportunity to get an overview of the current architectural events in Tyrol.
