Over the centuries, table lamps have undergone a remarkable evolution: from ornately designed 18th-century candlesticks to functional desk lamps of the Industrial Age, and on to contemporary designer pieces. Today, they not only provide light but also serve as cultural and design statements—objects that are collected, exhibited, and discussed.

The exhibition LUMEN in the B-L Schaufenster explores this complexity and presents a carefully curated selection of very diverse table lamps. On display are works by both emerging and established female designers, artists, and architects. Special attention is given to the diversity of manufacturing techniques and material approaches. The table lamps on display range from experimental glassworks to precisely industrially manufactured objects and sculptural one-of-a-kind pieces. What they have in common is their exploration of light as a medium and of the table lamp as an interface between function, design, and space.
