Hours

The exhibition “IMPULSE – Architecture of Industrial Culture,” designed as a guided tour on the first floor of the Baukunstarchiv NRW, presents 24 buildings of industrial heritage in the Ruhr region across five categories. These categories are based on the urban planning dimensions of housing, transportation, industry, water, and the city. Display cases provide space for sectional models of the selected structures, depicting their current condition. The cases were conceived and designed by art directors Daniela Costa and Lisa Müller of the graphic and design firm “Büreau.” “The models needed space to unfold, yet they had to remain directly connected to the other references of the corresponding building,” Costa and Müller explained on the evening of the exhibition opening.

The 24 models, built by students and instructors from the model-making workshop at TU Dortmund University, are complemented by text panels, historical reference materials, and photographs from 2019/20 by photographer Matthias Koch. “The works literally told me how they wanted to be photographed, and it was a pleasure for me to discover these impressive sites and works of industrial culture as part of the exhibition,” reported Matthias Koch on the evening of the opening.

Opening: September 23, 2021, 6:00 p.m.
