How do architects explore ideas? Even in our digital age, architects work through drawings and models. Along with photographs, these visualizations help us understand buildings we may never see firsthand. The Heinz Architectural Center, part of Carnegie Museum of Art, promotes understanding of the built environment through exhibitions, collections, and public programs. Growing the Collection is designed to inspire this summer’s class of architecture campers, as well as visitors to the galleries.

The exhibition features drawings, models, and photographs acquired by the Heinz Architectural Center within the past three years. The works on view relate to projects ranging across place and time: from Pittsburgh to South America, from the American Gilded Age to contemporary Japan. Many of these objects have never been exhibited before now.
