Every child knows Lego. But before the Danish company conquered the international market, there were hundreds of companies producing a variety of construction kits starting around 1880. The DAM has the unique opportunity to create an exhibition using graphic artist Claus Krieger's private collection of architectural kits, breaking through the "glass barrier" that typically separates the objects from the public in museums (for conservation reasons). At approximately eight stations at the center of the exhibition, visitors can play, build, and develop new things.

Prof. Andreas Kretzer of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT) and his students have recreated the valuable original bricks from the "Ingenius," "Bâtiss," and "Skyline" sets on an enlarged scale to make them "playable." In addition, bricks from the "Minibrix," "Tetek," and "Dusyma" systems, as well as the "Kleine Großblockbaumeister" (Little Large Block Builder) made in the GDR, await all who enjoy building. Visitors can also immerse themselves in a virtual model world using VR headsets, programmed by students of Prof. Philipp Reinfeld, also from the HFT. A total of around 60 construction kits will be presented, which will also be presented in an extensive catalog. And, of course, dozens of assembled models will be on display.
