New Freedom
An important building block for the sustainable development of people, society and the (built) environment is the conscious use of available resources. However, this sufficiency does not mean a restriction, but offers new opportunities and unimagined freedoms. The exhibition in the Raumgalerie suggests ways of dealing creatively with existing structures, asks the question of actual needs and opens the discussion to a critical debate.
The stories of innovation, growth, progress and technofix determine in many ways the actions of our time. Everything seems possible, everything seems to be available without restrictions. Design and especially technical progress convey that the climate and resource crisis can be easily brought under control with smart solutions. Many of these ideas, however, are isolated solutions that only make sense in individual cases. The holistic way of thinking, combined with as diverse a view as possible of the effects of one's own actions, is all too often ignored. Meanwhile, global resource consumption continues to rise steadily, and planetary boundaries have long been exceeded. The challenge: On the one hand, there is the limited supply that the earth has available to people, and on the other, the (disproportionately) increasing need for resources. Expectations and reality are drifting apart, and an uncomfortable alienation between people and the environment is manifesting itself. What is needed is profound change, a transformation in society, politics and the economy! For everyone, but especially for the construction sector.
Sufficiency, i.e. the conscious use of available resources, is essential for truly sustainable development in all areas. Sufficiency does not try to satisfy existing needs with fewer or different resources, but questions the needs themselves: What is really necessary to lead a good life? The principle of sufficiency is the opportunity to put seemingly given standards to the test and to break away from rigid conventions. With tangible advantages: Clear prioritization saves costs and time in construction and operation. Sufficiency creates new freedom for people. The relationship between people, society and the (built) environment is brought back into balance.
With the exhibition "New Freedom - Sufficient Building" in the Raumgalerie, Robi Wache Architekten are entering into precisely this responsible and critical debate and asking the questions that are important for the future: How can we deal with the built environment, and how can a new vision of a sustainable, future-proof community with new narratives emerge? What must be done to achieve future-oriented architecture and positive social change? Robi Wache Architekten combine this with a clear call to take action and to break new ground. Their foundation is a sufficient way of working with which they face the challenges and thus make them an important part of the construction revolution. They are concerned with raising awareness of the fact that we all leave traces behind. For Robi Wache Architekten, it is the (treasure) search for stories and the joy in the beauty of what is lived. This creates strategies that value what is found and create maximum quality with minimal intervention. Sustainable construction is a community effort. Building efficiently, not “in” but “with” the existing structure, shows that change in the here and now is possible with modern means.
