Ordinary Modernity
At the crossroads of photography and architecture, this exhibition presents the work of Nelly Monnier and Eric Tabuchi, authors of the Atlas of Natural Regions (ARN). Here, Faucigny, Genevois, Chablais, and Savoie Propre, territories of Haute-Savoie and Savoie, appear through the lens of everyday modernity. Deliberately foregoing major cities and tourist routes, the photographers take secondary roads, traversing cantons and sub-prefectures, to reveal images of daily life.
The exhibition invites us to delve deeper into the question of what already exists, recognizing that the world to come—a world both to be built and repaired—will no longer benefit from the resources depicted in the photographs, nor from the economic conditions that characterized the post-war boom. In this context, it becomes essential to take a clear-eyed look at our surroundings before succumbing to the temptation to demolish everything and rebuild, often with less quality.
The preservation and enhancement of what already exists must therefore be considered fundamental drivers of social, ecological, and architectural transitions.
