Kamel Louafi – East Meets West

So close and yet so far: the fascination of the landscape’s choreography

For Kamel Louafi, Hanover is far more than just a stop on his exhibition tour—it is the place where his international career began. As early as EXPO 2000, he made his first significant mark here with the design of the gardens. This was followed by further projects that continue to shape the cityscape to this day, including work in the Welfengarten, on Opernplatz, and on the Platz der Menschenrechte in front of the New City Hall.

The exhibition is thus not only an overview of Louafi’s work but also a personal retrospective on his close connection to Hanover. A defining feature of Louafi’s work is the fusion of Eastern and Western design elements. A key component of the exhibition is the use of expansive, floating arabesque forms. They invite visitors to envision their own idea of a paradisiacal garden—as a peaceful place beyond cultural or religious boundaries.
