Context(s) HIL

During the Spring Semester 2026, architecture students addressed the HIL building on ETH Zurich's Hönggerberg campus in their Master’s thesis, the transformation of which is being developed at the Living Lab HIL.

The upcoming renovation and extension of the building from the 1970s offers a chance for rediscovering its qualities, reconsidering its role on campus, and exploring how its spaces and materials can be adaptively reused. The assignment calls for a fresh interpretation of the HIL building and a clear understanding of its diverse program. From this, the students formulate their own answers. All projects are on display in the HIL building until the end of June.
