The Architecture Museum - University of South Australia Adelaide

The Architecture Museum is a unique repository of more than 200,000 items significant to South Australia's architectural history. A research facility open to the public, the Architecture Museum is housed in a purpose-built facility at City West campus.

The Architecture Museum is managed from within the School of Art, Architecture and Design by an academic staff member appointed as part-time Director. A part-time Collections Manager is responsible for day-to-day work including addressing enquiries. The Architecture Museum has an Advisory Committee comprising members external to the University of South Australia.

In the mid1970s, in the absence of a local repository to preserve documents related to the history and practice of architecture and related professions in South Australia, architectural historian Donald Leslie Johnson initiated a private collection.

In 1990 he donated it to the School of the Built Environment of the South Australian Institute of Technology (a predecessor institution of the University of South Australia). The acquisition included drawings, practice records, personal papers, photos, slides, books and periodicals.
