7th edition of the Children’s Dream City

More than 3,900 students from nursery and elementary schools in the 19th arrondissement of Paris and the town of Ivry-sur-Seine are creating a giant cork model this year. Initiated in 2016 by the Maison de l’architecture Ile-de-France, the Children’s Dream City is an active educational action aimed at schoolgirls aged 3 to 10. This project encourages children's curiosity and their pleasure in learning to observe and decipher the architectural and urban environment in which they live.

In partnership with the Ile-de-France academic region, the Maison de l'architecture Ile-de-France introduces schoolchildren to architecture each year, teaching children to read the different components of urban space, to think about new uses for their ideal city and allows them to materialize their imagination by creating a large model which will be the subject of an exhibition in the chapel of the former Récollets Convent.

Since its creation, this action has benefited from the support of the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Ile-de-France and the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs Ile-de-France.

For several weeks, the students, accompanied by their teachers and architects from the Maison de l'architecture Ile-de-France, brought to life a collective work in cork. This ecological and recyclable material was provided to us free of charge by Agglolux-CBL for the 160 classes who participated in this 7th edition.
This year, the Children's Dream City brought together more than 3,900 students from nursery and elementary schools in the 19th arrondissement of Paris and the town of Ivry-sur-Seine, who together imagined and designed an impressive cork model.

Children's dream city 2023: 34 schools, 160 classes, 170 architectural interventions to give shape to urban imaginations around a “river city” made of cork.

The 7th edition of the children's dream city is carried out with the support of the Ile-de-France Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs, the Paris Academy, the Créteil Academy, the Town Hall of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, the Town Hall of 'Ivry-sur-Seine, the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Ile-de-France, Agglolux-CBL and Unesco – SONU and Café A
