Vincent van Buuren writes about his work and working method: "As a photographer I am self-taught. I only really started taking photos intensively when I bought my first digital camera and a laptop in 2004. That year I lived in Finland for three months from January to April. The extremely harsh winter that year was beautiful, there was always something to photograph. I already started with abstract photography then, such as tree bark and ice. Back in the Netherlands I have always continued to look for patterns in nature, in architecture or in objects. I also concentrate on cloudy skies, sunsets and landscapes".

"In architectural photos I look for patterns that I mirror and put together in different ways, creating new patterns or shapes. I do this mainly with the Photoshop program and then use filters and distortions. In addition, I also use the method of 'Hyperbolic Tiling' via the internet, which creates a circle with rhythmic repetition. This method, which works according to certain mathematical principles, was also used by the graphic artist Escher."

According to Van Buuren, the 'title photo' of this exhibition is a good example of how he works. "I took this photo in Haarlem station. Then I cut the photo out square and mirrored it. The reflections were combined and shifted again. Then I made different versions using Hyperbolic Tiling."
