Preserving the Existing. Creating the New.

Building Conversion Culture in Berlin
Address
Fehrbelliner Platz 4, 10707 Berlin
Hours
Mon-Fri 10 am-5 pm

Berlin needs a new building culture – a culture of reconstruction. For us, this means a considered approach to preserving the existing building stock and creatively developing it further. As we see it, reconstruction culture relies on the potential of existing buildings. Instead of demolition and new construction, it opens up paths to sustainable urban development with high design quality.

In our exhibition "PRESERVING THE EXISTING. CREATING THE NEW. Reconstruction Culture in Berlin," we examine what has already been achieved and what potential still remains to be tapped.

Using characteristic examples, we show how Berlin developers, architectural firms, and the city administration have been very creatively dealing with the existing building stock since the 1980s. Seven selected projects point the way to what resource-efficient, design-savvy construction could look like in the Berlin of the future.

Opening: 16.10.2025, 6 p.m.
