In the year of the celebration of the 270th anniversary of the birth of the architect Nikolai Aleksandrovich Lvov, the Museum of Architecture named after A.V. Shchusev together with the All-Russian Historical and Ethnographic Museum are preparing a joint exhibition project “Nikolai Alexandrovich Lvov. The Genius of the Place " .

The inter-museum project allows revealing the secrets of the life and work of one of the most gifted, creative figures in Russia - Nikolai Aleksandrovich Lvov  (1753-1803). The architectural heritage of the architect is extremely rich, it includes not only amazingly beautiful palaces, temples and estates, but also theoretical works on architecture and landscape art. For the first time, residents and guests of the city will see the “desktop” of the brilliant architect, his thoughts and sketches, embodied on paper.

In the history of Russian architecture of the last third of the 18th century, the work of Nikolai Lvov rightfully occupied a place next to the largest masters of the St. Petersburg classical school - Ivan Starov, Giacomo Quarenghi, Charles Cameron. The creative possibilities of Nikolai Aleksandrovich were not limited to his architectural activities. A poet and musician, historian and translator, geologist and mechanic, Nikolai Lvov was gifted in all areas of art, encyclopedically educated and passionate about life in all its manifestations.

Lviv's heritage is enough to provide work for more than one generation of researchers. A wide field for study is the fate of N.A. Lviv -officer, employee of the Collegium of Foreign Affairs. As a biologist and gardener N.A. Lviv still gives us excellent guidelines in the revival of manor parks, which are many in the Upper Volga region.

For the first time in Torzhok within the framework of the exhibition project “Nikolai Aleksandrovich Lvov. The Genius of the Place”  will present the graphic heritage of Lviv, its original drawings and sketches. As well as the results of a study of his richest architectural heritage: measured drawings, reconstructions and photographs of his buildings from different years. These unique exhibits are provided from the funds of the Museum of Architecture. A.V. Shchusev (Moscow). The VIEM stock collection will harmoniously complement the exposition. Among them are  rare photographs of the interiors of the most beautiful Lviv "pearl" -estate "Znamenskoye-Rayok", which today is experiencing a rebirth. Visitors to the exhibition will learn how it looked in Soviet times. One of the main "highlights" of the exposition will be a genuine restored chair of the 18th century, which was located in this estate.
