The Karl-Liebknecht-Straße complex is one of the most striking buildings in the center of Berlin. At the same time, his story is hardly known. The exhibition “The Karl-Liebknecht-Straße complex – between utopia and reality” aims to fill this gap.

The complex, built between 1967 and 1973, was a showcase building for which almost limitless resources were available. That is why the planners were able to realize the utopias of modernity here in an almost unbroken form. This history is traced in the exhibition using unpublished documents. The visions of the planners, the political framework and international influences are just as important as everyday use. The extravagant interiors and works of art that gave the complex a special touch are also presented. The image that emerges is of an extraordinary building in which the world politics of the 1960s and the utopias of modernity are reflected equally.
