The Hungarian Museum of Architecture and Monument Protection Documentation Centre (HMA MPDC) opened its impressive exhibition venue in the former Rózsi Walter Villa in 2022. The villa, originally designed in 1936 by József Fischer for the renowned opera singer Rózsi Walter, is an outstanding example of Hungarian modern architecture. The reinforced concrete structure marks the talent of Eszter Pécsi, the first female Hungarian structural engineer. The villa underwent major changes after the Second World War and was used as a pediatrician’s office for decades after the nationalization. Its rehabilitation began in 2020.

The opening exhibition presents the Modern residential architecture of the period in Hungary, and whilst taking the original functions of the villa’s spaces as the basis of the exhibition layout, it presents the building as a piece of artefact itself. The nearly two hundred items displayed in the exhibition have been selected primarily from the abundant collection of the Museum, various artifacts that are nearly unknown to the general public.
