The City of Frankfurt can look back on a long history of bridge building: What was known as the “Ford of the Franks” in the 8th century today boasts 18 bridges and footbridges linking the two sides of the River Main and helping define the overall feel of the city. The most recent addition completes an ensemble of old and new. 175 m long and masterminded by Ferdinand Heide Architekten BDA\Grontmij GmbH consortium, the steel structure known as Osthafenbrücke has now been linked with the historical Honsell- brücke. Together they not only combine into a building project par excellence, but indeed bridge the gap between the centuries.

The photo exhibition sets out to document the construction of Osthafenbrücke and the refurbishment of Honsellbrücke in Frankfurt. Klaus and Elke Malorny’s black-and-white photographs provide close-up footage of the making and metamorphosis of the two bridges and reveal unique and detailed insights into the construction process. Background information on the project serve to round out these highly impressive images.
