Exhibition of Works
The exhibition in the gallery invites visitors to immerse themselves fully in the “cosmos of architecture” created by architect and professor Uwe Schröder, who works in Bonn and teaches in Aachen. From the very beginning, Schröder's practical work as an architect has been shaped by theory formation. Since 2000, the two pillars of theory and practice have been complemented by a third: teaching. Since then, these three levels have influenced each other in a constant interaction, leading to a constantly deepening understanding of fundamental architectural conditions.
With his clear stance, Schröder has been shaping the debate on fundamental topics in architecture for more than three decades: topology and typology, space and aesthetics. The exhibition in the gallery reflects this and brings together published books, photographs of built architecture, illustrations of planned designs, collages, and models. The exhibition amalgamates the utopian and the concrete, the theoretical and the practical into a greater whole. The exhibition venue itself becomes a walk-in exhibit, a space for spaces—after all, the gallery building was realized according to the architect's plans in 2014. The result is a fascinating picture of the mutual influences between the disciplines of building, thinking, and teaching, which are so often separated from one another.
