Living Frameworks

The Living Frameworks exhibition examines the relationship between the built environment and the natural world. In an era where the consequences of human interventions in natural ecosystems are increasingly coming to light, HOP.office explores the role of architecture and urban planning as a mediator between two seemingly separate domains.The divide between the construction sector and the natural world has grown wider over the years. Living Frameworks emphasises the urgency of bridging this gap. Eleven diverse architectural projects demonstrate how knowledge from ecological and biological disciplines is slowly but surely becoming integrated into contemporary architecture. In each project, architects and designers collaborated closely with local nature experts on the habitats of, for instance, bats, flora, butterflies, and birds. The exhibition illustrates how architecture doesn’t just passively react to its surroundings, but can also play an active role in preserving and enhancing biodiversity.

The exhibition invites critical reflection on the role of buildings as ecosystems. The aim is to position architecture as an agent for a better relationship between humans and nature.
